Board a cruise boat and sail through the labyrinth of islands and water channels that make up the delta. Watch the rich bird life of the river banks and keep an eye open for capybara or otters at the water’s edge.
See for yourself the lifestyle of the inhabitants of Tigre (isleños) – how their houses are built on stilts above the water and how daily living is conducted entirely by boat.
Return to Buenos Aires, you will pass by the Presidential Residence .
For your Tigre and Delta Tour with Northern Zone from Buenos Aires you will be picked up from your hotel in central Buenos Aires in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle. An experienced multi-lingual guide (English, Spanish, and Portuguese) will accompany you.
On arrival at the dock, you will board a motorboat for a cruise to the Parana River Delta also known as the Tigre region. The delta occurs at the point, about 20 miles northeast of Buenos Aires, where the Parana River joins the Rio de la Plata. It is the only delta in the world where one river empties into another river instead of into the sea.
The Tigre region is a 14,000 sq km (8400 sq mile) sub-tropical paradise, consisting of thousands of islands and inlets, water channels and backwaters. You will sail between the islands and will have a chance to view the life-style of ‘isleños’ – the people who live on the delta islands.
Most island houses are built on stilts and daily life is conducted through boats which travel between the islands. There are ‘supermarket’ boats, an ‘ambulance’ boat, and ‘bus’ and ‘taxi’ boats.
The name ‘Tigre’ comes from the fact that, years ago, this wilderness was the haunt of large numbers of jaguars (‘tigre’). These days, few jaguars remain, but the delta is a haven for many different birds. Indeed, it is one of the world’s top bird-watching destinations. Capybara, otters and marsh deer are among the mammals typical of the delta.
Your boat cruise takes about 1 hour. You will then re-board the bus to visit the attractive town of San Isidro. Here, you have a great chance to learn about its history, life-style and people.
On the way back to Buenos Aires, you will also pass the Presidential Residence which is outside the city in Quinta de Olivos!
Please call the activity operator at least 72 hours prior to the start of the tour to confirm the name of your hotel and time of pick-up. Failure to do this will result in a ‘no show’ with no-refund.
Hotel pick-up and drop-off is not available for hotels in the Palermo neighborhood. You will need to make your own way to a centrally located hotel to meet the tour vehicle. Please check with the tour operator to see which hotel would be most suitable
We had a wonderful tour to the beautiful Tigre Delta. The organisation was first class, the boat was spacious, clean and afforded excellent viewing of the scenery along the way....
This little tour was a great way to have a glance of San Isidro, you get an hour at the Station Mall to buy some souvenirs or have some breakfast... just make sure you bring cash...
