What inspires you? A beautiful garden? Gorgeous house? Stunning scenery? Well visit Abbotsford House, and you’ll soon discover what inspired one of Scotland’s great poets – Sir Walter Scott. The poet bought Abbotsford House in the Scottish Borders almost 200 years ago.
Maybe it’ll inspire you too? Explore the mansion and its gardens. Discover a wealth of objects and artefacts that made their way into his work. Learn about his life and the many achievements he got through his plays, novels and poetry. The beautiful garden looks like it sprung straight from one of Scott’s historical romances - he designed it himself with advice from artists, architects, and friends.
Other highlights will include seeing the Juliette balcony and the Rapunzel tower. So what inspires you? Well, after a visit here, writing poetry may well be high on the list. Poetry in motion.
