Overview

A former prison full of Renaissance masterworks, including four Michelangelos and Donatello's famous bronze David, the Bargello Museum comprises a breathtaking curation of art and history. This skip-the-line tickets are perfect for exploring Bargello without having to deal with long queues.

The stunning 13th century building presents a myriad of creations for you to feast your eyes on:

  • Donatello’s David, sculpted as  a slightly effeminate boy and a far cry from Michelangelo's treatment of the same subject.

  • Crowd-favourite sculptures by Benvenuto Cellini, Luca della Robbia and Verrocchio.

  • A room dedicated solely to Michelangelo with Bacchus standing naked and proud in the center, surrounded by the artist's first sculptures. There’s also the Tondo Pitti and the Portrait of Brutus, two great reflections of the legend’s artistry.

  • Grand ducal collections, Gothic decorative arts, and in the 14th-century hall, Donatello's early marble masterpieces.

  • A collection of Roman and Byzantine ivories, Renaissance jewels, and busts of Florentine personalities created by highly revered artists from the 15th century.

… and much, much more.

And that’s not all - the building's own turbulent history, known for fires, executions and sieges in the 18th century, is as mesmerising as the collection inside. Just remember that the Bargello has many names, so you might see it signposted as the Palazzo del Bargello, Museo Nazionale del Bargello, or Palazzo del Popolo (Palace of the People). Whatever the name, if you are someone who is even slightly affected by the beauty of art, this is a gem you can’t afford to miss!
