Overview

A spectacular 15th century religious complex, the Museo di San Marco is a fantastic display of the renowned painter Fra Angelico most famous art and frescoes. This ticket will take you to the Chiesa di San Marco (and its adjoining 15th-century Dominican monastery) where the Renaissance Superstar served God, along with firebrand preacher Girolamo Savonarola. 

Comprising a church and a convent, the complex is home to a number of stunning and significant frescoes - including Giovanni Antonio Sogliani's The Miraculous Supper of St Dominic, Fra' Angelico's Crucifixion and Saints in the former chapter house and Annunciation. You can also marvel at an array of breathtaking paintings, such as the famed Deposition of Christ with its realistic depiction of nature. Baptised a Saint in 1984 Pope John Paul II, Angelico completed most of his work while being known as 'Il Beato' (The Blessed). 

Admire numerous religious and devotional frescoes on the cells, all of which are in stark contrast to the plain rooms that Savonarola - a Dominican friar and preacher, check out items once owned by the headstrong monk who fought fiercely against greed and luxury - including a marble monument constructed in 1873 by his admirers - there’s a lot to do at this historic attraction.
