Overview

Descend into the heart of a volcano on a visit to the unique Thrihnukagigur volcano, one of the few places in the world where you can literally explore the inside of a volcano and visit its gigantic magma chamber.

Descend into the volcano through the top crater and reach right to the bottom of its magma chamber where molten magma flowed during an eruption 4.000-years ago.

Reaching the volcano will take an hour’s walk and you will be entering with an open cable lift, a descent of 120 metres.

The magma chamber usually collapses after a volcanic eruption, but in the case of Thrihnukagigur, the lava drained out like water from a pipe leaving the volcano's plumbing system empty.

Be bowled over by the size and the depth of the volcano as the ground space is the size of three basketball courts and the centre cavity could easily fit the Statue of Liberty!
