Full Day Rio Sightseeing including Christ Statue and Sugar Loaf Mountain Cable Car

For your Scenic Tour of Rio – Corcovado, Christ Statue and Sugar Loaf you will be picked up from your hotel in an air-conditioned coach. An English-speaking guide will accompany you on this full-day tour.

The excursion starts with a sightseeing tour of downtown Rio passing by the Sambodrome, huge parade ground used during the Carnival, and the huge cone-shaped Metropolitan Cathedral, a masterpiece of modern architecture.

You will see Cinelândia Square with its historical buildings, the Municipal Theater, the National Library and the National Museum of Fine Arts. By way of the Aterro do Flamengo, you will be taken to the neighborhood of Urca to visit the iconic Sugar Loaf Mountain.

To ascend this dramatic peak you will take a cable car in two stages. The first cable car takes you to Urca Hill, a vantage point 215 meters high. Here you will see beautiful views of Guanabara Bay and its islands, the Rio-Niterói Bridge and Corcovado Mountain.

From this stage, a second cable car will take you right up to the top. At 395 meters (1283 feet) you’ll enjoy splendid views of Copacabana beach, the Santa Cruz fortress and several beaches of Niterói.

After the morning tour, relax and enjoy a light lunch at a seafood restaurant in Ipanema. In the afternoon (except on Sundays), go by the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas (the most famous lake in Rio) on your way to reach the Cosme Velho Train Station at the bottom of Corcovado Mountain.

You will ride up the mountain through the dense Tijuca rain forest to the Christ Redeemer Statue. On the way up you will get a close look at the jungle vegetation and butterflies and see fine views of Ipanema and Leblon.

At the top you have between 40 to 60 minutes to enjoy the truly spectacular views of Rio and the surrounding countryside. Your guide will also tell you more about the iconic Christ Redeemer statue. Constructed between 1922 and 1931 in art deco style, it is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone. At nearly 40 meters (130 ft) in height (including pedestal), it is one of the tallest of its kind in the world.

After riding the train back down, you will be taken back to your hotel or to the cruise port.
